Things to do at day 1 in Canada - For Work Permit Holders and Others

If you are new in Canada and not sure where to start , I will guide you step by step for everything in detail.

This post is about what needs to be done on Day 1 which is essential to continue your job activities.

SIN Application

SIN is Social Insurance Number which is required for all places related to your banking, healthcare etc. Consider it as your identification.

Now how to apply it.
  1. Look for service Canada + your current zip code in google. It will show nearby service Canada center. If you don't find go to below link , select option of applying SIN.

Next page select below options and it will show you documents required. Keep these documents ready. Based on experience I will provide your information for work permit holders.

2. Above process is informative but you wanted quick way then once you find out nearby service Canada center. Walkin there early morning. 

Usually early morning it's not crowded. So firstly they will take your information for purpose you are there. They will see your work permit , passport and inform you to fill the one small slip and to wait until your name gets called out.

This slip will contain following information 

Your first and last name

Mother's maiden name

Father's full name

If you have any twin siblings

Your date of birth

Current Address

Cellphone number

There will be multiple windows/cabins and person from respective window will call out your name and window number to visit.  

Handover the slip , passport and work permit. A person will request that you read in your head the disclaimer from Service Ontario regarding the use of the Social Insurance Number, which is affixed to the glass.

That's it meanwhile your SIN will be generated and you will be handed over a piece of paper which will have SIN number. Person will inform you that it will remain valid a day before work permit expiry.
